First Due House Fire from a Possible Lightning Strike

On August 14th, at approximately 2200 hours, units from Huntingtown and surrounding areas were alerted to the 2200 block of Big Lane Court for the reported house fire, possibly caused by a lightning strike.

Chief 6A (Thrasher) arrived first to find a single story, single family dwelling, with fire showing from the attic area.

Engine 62 and Rescue Squad 6 arrived, and began extinguishment. Units from surrounding companies arrived, and began assisting in extinguishment, and overhaul operations.

Due to a sudden collapse from a portion of the roof, command evacuated the structure until the bulk of the fire was extinguished. Units operated for approximately 3 hours.

All units did an outstanding job on the fire ground.
